TIRANA, June 2 – The 13th edition of the Dea Open Air International Film Festival opened on Sunday. The event will run until June 5 and will showcase 40 films from 25 countries.
The festival began with a welcome event in front of the University of Arts. Festival Director Edmond Topi addressed guests before organisers screened Gülizar. Turkish director Belkıs Bayrak directed the 84-minute feature. Organisers held the screening at the university amphitheatre. Meanwhile, Topi said the festival seeks to strengthen cinema culture and encourage audiences to return to theatres.
Under the theme “Open Air – Open Minds”, organisers will present feature films, short films and student productions. Screenings will take place at the University of Arts Amphitheatre and the Kujtim Spahivogli Experimental National Theatre. In addition, the programme includes meetings with filmmakers, networking activities and professional exchanges.
Festival representative Mirela Oktrova said this year’s selection focuses on universal themes and contemporary challenges. She added that the programme includes productions from China, Kyrgyzstan, Europe and the United States.
Meanwhile, the DEA Academy programme will involve students from the University of Prishtina Faculty of Arts and the European University of Tirana. Participants will join a practical audiovisual laboratory. The project will explore Tirana and the relationship between artists and urban space.
The festival receives support from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, the Municipality of Tirana, the National Center of Cinematography and the University of Arts.
