Defence Minister Ermal Nufi: 44 civil protection projects approved, 650 million ALL funding allocated

TIRANA, May 28 – Defence Minister Ermal Nufi said the Council of Ministers approved several decisions covering civil protection, international missions, and military structure.

The minister confirmed approval of 44 civil protection projects. He said 26 projects focus on infrastructure works. He added that 18 projects cover equipment and emergency response tools for municipalities. Total funding reaches 650 million ALL.

In addition, the project list was consolidated in February 2026. Additional financing follows in 2027. The package aims to reduce disaster risk and strengthen citizen protection.

The Council of Ministers also approved the extension of Albania’s mission in Latvia until December 31, 2029. The decision supports Armed Forces commitments within NATO, including demining operations.

Separately, the government approved the standardisation of military ranks. The measure addresses inconsistencies identified in the existing structure.
