Defence Minister Nufi announces three government

TIRANA, May 28 – Defence Minister Ermal Nufi said today that the Council of Ministers approved three decisions related to the defence sector.

Meanwhile, Nufi said the first decision concerns the extension of Albania’s mission in Latvia. He said Albania currently deploys a platoon in Latvia. He added that the government extended its stay until December 31, 2029. Nufi said the decision strengthens the Armed Forces, especially NATO missions in Latvia.

In addition, the minister highlighted the engagement of Albanian forces in demining operations. He said a specialised platoon works on removing mines from contaminated areas. He said the extension of this mission supports collective NATO security.

Finally, Nufi said the next decision concerns the standardisation of military ranks. He explained that inconsistencies emerged after 2015 following government decisions and structural changes. He said the new decision addresses those discrepancies.
