TIRANA, May 28 – Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu said the European Union recognises Albania’s progress in the integration process. She also called for careful reading of the Interim Benchmark Assessment Report, known as IBAR.
Meanwhile, Koçiu spoke after the Council of Ministers meeting. She addressed questions on whether the decision not to lift the immunity of Belinda Balluku had affected EU negotiations. Balluku said Albania’s position remains unchanged. She added that institutions and the Socialist Party in Parliament continue a constructive dialogue.
In addition, Koçiu said recent decisions have not affected Albania’s progress or its relationship with justice institutions. She described criticism from the opposition as political interpretation that does not reflect the negotiation process. She said Albania continues talks with the aim of closing European Union chapters within this decade.
At the same time, the deputy prime minister highlighted the role of public administration staff in meeting European Union commitments. She said the government directs this work and aims to complete obligations by 2030.
Finally, Koçiu urged media and political actors to avoid misinterpreting European Commission reports. She said the documents use technical language that guides institutional reforms and future commitments.
