The film Dua by Kosovar director Blerta Basholli has placed Kosovo among the world’s film elite. Following its emotional premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, the film was honored with the prestigious “SACD” award, presented by the Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers. This recognition is considered one of the most important authorial awards in France and marks another major success for Kosovar cinematography.
Emotional after this triumph, Basholli told media in Kosovo that the award carries special significance, especially because the film is based on a deeply personal story. The film’s premiere in Cannes became an unforgettable moment for the team, as the audience welcomed it with prolonged applause.
The film “Dua” tells the story of the lives, dreams, and challenges of young people during times of conflict, in this case during the war in Kosovo. Basholli also explained that the film’s title itself carries a double symbolism. She revealed that one of the biggest challenges during production was authentically recreating wartime Pristina, as many scenes were filmed in real locations.
According to director Basholli, the message of “Dua” is to show others that people living in war are just like everyone else and have their own dreams, especially teenagers. Following its success in Cannes, “Dua” has already received invitations to other international festivals in France, Germany, and Bosnia, and is also expected to be screened at PriFestin Prishtinë.
Through its main character, the film explores themes of growing up, hope, and the desire for a normal life despite the reality of war.
