TIRANA, May 28 – Education Minister Mirela Kumbaro visited BOKU University in Vienna during an official visit to Austria. Leaders from the Agricultural University of Tirana joined the visit. BOKU maintains long-standing cooperation with the Albanian university.
During the visit, Kumbaro held meetings with BOKU Rector Eva Schulev-Steindl, university leaders and Austrian higher education representatives. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the two universities. They also addressed higher education reform and university internationalisation.
Meanwhile, the Austrian side presented its experience in modernising the university system. Officials also discussed institutional profiling and quality standards. The talks took place as Albania continues work on revisions to the higher education law.
Kumbaro said the Austrian experience offers an important reference for Albania’s objectives in university profiling, internationalisation and quality improvement. She added that Albania also seeks alignment with European Union standards as part of the integration process.
At the same time, participants described cooperation between BOKU and the Agricultural University of Tirana as a concrete model of European partnership. They said the cooperation creates more opportunities for students, academic staff and scientific research. They also said the partnership brings Albanian universities closer to European Union practices.
In Vienna, Kumbaro also met Austrian Minister for Women and Scientific Research Eva-Maria Holzleitner. The two sides discussed exchange of experience in higher education, European standards and university reforms. In addition, Kumbaro held meetings with Austrian higher education officials.
