Ermal Nufi visited the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) on Friday. There, he met Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Alexus G. Grynkewich.
Nufi said the visit reflects the strong and stable partnership between the Albanian Armed Forces and NATO allies. He also reaffirmed Albania’s firm commitment to NATO, collective defence, and transatlantic cooperation amid rising geopolitical and security challenges.
During the meeting, both sides highlighted Albania’s increasingly active role in NATO’s decision-making, operational, and strategic structures.
Nufi said that Albania’s representation in NATO’s top command demonstrates the professionalism of its armed forces and the trust of allies. He added that Albania continues to contribute actively to Euro-Atlantic security, while sustained allied support remains essential for strengthening defence capabilities and operational readiness.
Moreover, Nufi assured General Grynkewich that Albania prioritizes the continuous modernization of its armed forces. He stressed that the country remains committed to fulfilling all NATO obligations, including defence investment pledges made in The Hague, while advancing security and defence capabilities.
In addition, both sides discussed key infrastructure projects, including the Porto Romano naval base and mobility along the Corridor VIII. Nufi described these as major strategic investments aimed at strengthening NATO mobility, interoperability, and operational readiness.
Furthermore, the talks addressed Albania’s commitment to increasing its contribution to NATO operations in the Western Balkans, including KFOR and EUFOR ALTHEA. Both sides noted that the region remains exposed to hostile influence, hybrid threats, and cyberattacks, requiring closer coordination among allies.
Finally, Nufi told General Grynkewich that Albania is preparing intensively for the upcoming historic NATO summit in Tirana next year.
