EU-funded project boosts nature tourism in Elbasan and Funar

Elbasan expands nature tourism with the second phase of the EU IPA Cross-Border project. The Council of the Municipality approves the creation of the Dopaj–Funar hiking trail and new orientation signage.

Mayor Gledian Llatja presents the project as part of a broader strategy to develop nature and adventure tourism in the region. He highlights cooperation with Kruševo under the IPA Cross-Border program funded by the European Union.

The first phase already delivers results in the Funar area. Authorities build an information point near Funar Lake and create a paragliding track. These investments increase visitor numbers.

Officials also develop several mountain trails connecting nearby areas, including routes from Bradasheshi and Shën Thanas to Funar. Visitors and hiking enthusiasts frequently use these paths.

The new Dopaj–Funar trail forms the second phase of the project. Authorities avoid large infrastructure works and focus on signage and light improvements to improve accessibility and safety.

The municipality aims to increase the tourism potential of Funar and the wider Elbasan region. Planners expect strong interest from visitors, especially from the Tirana area.

The project also includes plans for an adventure park. It will host outdoor sports activities and further strengthen the area as a nature tourism destination.
