European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection, Michael McGrath, has stated that Albania is one of the frontrunners in the European Union accession process.
In a social media post following his meeting with Prime Minister Edi Rama, McGrath stressed that Albania “belongs in the EU”, while emphasizing that significant work still needs to be done on the path towards membership.
“Albania belongs in the EU and is one of the frontrunners in the EU accession process,” McGrath wrote.
He said that the European Union would continue to support Albania at every step of this process.
According to McGrath, his meeting with Rama focused on Albania’s progress in implementing judicial and rule of law reforms, which he described as the “political anchor” of the accession process.
The European Commissioner also praised the Albanian government for the progress achieved so far.
“There is a strong track record of progress and a clear ambition. Now, this momentum must be maintained to deliver sustainable and irreversible results,” McGrath stated.
