Finance Minister Malaj in Paris: Albania active partner in global efforts against terrorist financing

TIRANA, May 20 – Minister of Finance Petrit Malaj took part in the 5th international ministerial conference “No Money for Terror” in Paris, France. French Minister for Economy, Finance and Industrial, Energy and Digital Sovereignty Roland Lescure hosted the event under France’s G7 presidency for 2026. French President Emmanuel Macron attended the conference.

Malaj said Albania remains committed to global efforts against terrorist financing and to protecting financial system integrity. He described Albania as an active voice and a reliable partner. He said the country applies measures against money laundering and terrorist financing in line with international standards. In addition, he said Albania strengthens institutional capacity, modernises financial monitoring systems, and improves financial intelligence analysis. He also said the country expands expertise in crypto-assets and digital finance. He added that Albania continues to align its legal and regulatory framework with international and European Union standards. Meanwhile, he stressed that technological change requires stronger international cooperation and sustained investment in resilient systems.

The “No Money for Terror” conference functions as a high-level forum launched in 2018 by the French government to strengthen global cooperation against terrorist financing. This year’s discussions focused on preventing misuse of cryptocurrencies and technological innovation. They also addressed links between terrorism and transnational organised crime. They further examined financing strategies based on territorial control. At the end of the conference, participants issued a joint statement. FATF members and international partners reaffirmed their commitment to intensify action against terrorist financing. They stressed that terrorism remains a global threat and called for preventing safe spaces for terrorist financing, including any form of state support. They also confirmed continued implementation of the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and UN resolutions, alongside the Paris Agenda adopted in 2018.
