Justice Minister Toni Gogu stressed the importance of free legal aid for citizens facing disputes who cannot afford a lawyer. In a social media post, he said violence could not resolve disagreements. Every citizen should have the opportunity to defend their rights and seek solutions through the law.
Gogu stressed that no one should feel alone or unprotected in the face of violence. He said the law protects citizens’ rights and provides legal solutions. Free legal aid also enables people to access legal support when they cannot afford a lawyer.
To illustrate his message, Gogu shared the story of a woman from Tirana involved in a property dispute. She alleged that her neighbour had subjected her to pressure and threats. According to her account, she contacted the police and filed a criminal complaint because she felt at risk. Later, someone informed her about the free legal aid service. She then secured a lawyer to help her pursue the case.
Gogu stressed that disputes should never escalate into violence. He added that authorities must do more than tell people to resolve conflicts through the law. They must also make legal assistance accessible. The minister urged citizens who need legal support to contact the free legal aid service.
