The Wom presents Gjipe Beach as one of the most spectacular natural sites in Albania. It highlights a dramatic canyon that opens directly onto a white-pebble beach and creates a strong contrast with the turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea.
Furthermore, the beach sits between Dhërmi and Himarë in southern Albania. It lies at the mouth of Gjipe Canyon, where steep rock walls rise up to 80 meters and shape a wild, untouched landscape.
In addition, nature has protected the area by limiting access. Because of this isolation, Gjipe has avoided mass tourism and preserved its natural beauty.
As a result, the beach remains quiet, clean, and authentic. The sea shows clear turquoise and deep blue tones, while smooth white pebbles enhance the natural scenery.
Moreover, the name “Gjipe” is believed to come from “Gjiri i Perëndisë” (God’s Bay). This name reflects the dramatic and almost untouched character of the landscape.
To reach the beach, visitors must make an effort. There is no paved road that leads directly to it, and this difficulty helps preserve the environment.
For example, travelers drive from Dhërmi or Himarë and then continue on foot. After a short rough road, they reach a parking area and start a 2.5 km hiking trail down to the beach.
Consequently, the walk takes about 30–45 minutes. It can feel demanding under the sun, but it rewards visitors with wide panoramic views along the way.
Alternatively, visitors can arrive by boat or kayak from nearby beaches such as Jalë. This option offers a different experience, as it reveals cliffs, sea caves, and the rugged coastline from the water.
Finally, Gjipe offers more than relaxation and swimming. It also supports adventure tourism, including canyon exploration, hiking, and climbing in selected areas.
