Government approves National Roadmap 2030, Deputy PM Koçiu: Albania’s European Union path faces no obstacles

TIRANA, May 28 – Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu said Albania’s European Union integration process continues without obstacles after today’s Cabinet meeting. She said the government has fulfilled its obligations to the European Union with seriousness.

At the start of her statement, Koçiu described the latest decisions as part of the process that followed the Albania-European Union Intergovernmental Conference. She said the conference confirmed the country’s irreversible path toward European Union membership.

Meanwhile, Koçiu said the latest government decisions show that Albanian institutions have consolidated their work. She added that the institutions now demonstrate sufficient maturity in reporting implemented reforms.

The deputy prime minister also said the government, state institutions and the Socialist Party parliamentary group have maintained a constructive approach. She said decision-making has not affected integration progress. In addition, she rejected opposition claims that sought to question the process. Koçiu said the European Union recognises Albania’s progress because institutions continue to fulfil their responsibilities seriously.

At the same time, she described positive assessments from the European Union as proof of Albania’s progress toward membership. She added that the opposition has failed to weaken the work of institutions.

Koçiu also announced two new Cabinet decisions linked directly to the integration process. The government approved the National Roadmap for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. She described the document as a strategic framework with 66 measurable criteria for public institutions in line with the European agenda.

Finally, the government approved a strategic partnership between the Albanian government and United Nations agencies for the 2027-2031 period. Koçiu said the partnership focuses on sustainable human capital development, economic transformation, green growth, good governance, justice and human rights.
