Another attempt to smuggle cocaine into Albania through the Port of Durrës has been foiled by police. Within one month, authorities have uncovered three attempts to traffic narcotics through the port.
As part of the operation codenamed “Anchor 3,” police seized 41 kilograms and 350 grams of cocaine, with an estimated street value of around €2 million.
The operation was carried out by the Durrës Narcotics Investigation Unit, in cooperation with the Local Directorate for Border and Migration and customs authorities at the Port of Durrës, as part of an investigation into a suspected drug trafficking case.
According to police, the drugs were discovered during a thorough inspection of a container originating from Brazil, which, according to the accompanying documentation, was declared as carrying chicken meat.
The inspection uncovered 37 packages containing suspected cocaine, concealed in the outer panels of the container. The total amount seized was 41.35 kilograms.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to uncover the entire trafficking scheme, including the origin and intended destination of the drugs, as well as to identify and apprehend those involved in the criminal activity.
The case materials have been referred to the Prosecutor’s Office for further action.
