Renowned Albanian restorer Jani Zoica has passed away, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in preserving mural art and religious monuments across Albania.
The Museum of Medieval Art Korçë announced the news in a social media post, highlighting Zoica’s contribution to fresco and mural restoration for more than three decades.
He dedicated most of his work to churches in the region of Korçë, as well as other important cultural heritage monuments throughout the country.
With dedication and professionalism, Zoica restored the artistic and historical value of frescoes, bringing back not only their faded colors but also the identity and spirit they carried.
In its tribute, the museum described Zoica’s work as a quiet and sacred mission in service of Albania’s national heritage, emphasizing that his name and work will continue to live on in the country’s cultural memory.
Zoica’s passing marks a major loss for Albania’s community of restorers and artists, as well as for the preservation of the country’s cultural heritage.
In December 2025, Zoica opened an exhibition featuring frescoes he had restored over the years — a collection that reflected his lifelong dedication to Albanian art and history.
