Korçë to Build New French Lyceum Focused on Science and Technology

Albania has taken the first step towards building a new French Lyceum in Korçë, a public school of excellence that will focus on science, technology and multilingual education.

Education Minister Mirela Kumbaro announced that the government has approved the draft law for the project. The new school will be established under an agreement between the Albanian and French governments, following a joint initiative by French President Emmanuel Macron and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.

According to Kumbaro, the Ministry of Education has spent the past two years preparing aligned curricula for the science-focused school.

The lyceum will offer free education to Albanian students and will also welcome students from across the region. Its new campus will include classrooms, a library, laboratories and a canteen.

Moreover, students will study in three languages: Albanian, English and French. The curriculum will be aligned with the French education system, allowing students to earn a joint diploma recognised through both the Albanian and French school-leaving systems.

French teachers will work alongside Albanian educators. Albanian teachers will teach subjects such as the Albanian language, literature and the history of Albania.

The project aims to combine Korçë’s long educational tradition with modern scientific learning and stronger cooperation between Albania and France.
