Kosovo’s Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation (MINTI) has imposed a €110,000 fine on the Kosovo Electricity Distribution Company (KEDS) following the discovery of irregularities in electricity meters.
According to MINTI, inspections were carried out after consumer complaints received during May. Field verifications revealed that 18 electricity meters had exceeded their validity period, two of which had already been withdrawn from service, while an additional 30 meters were found to have inaccuracies related to date and time settings.
“Based on the identified findings and in accordance with the Law on Metrology, the Central Market Inspectorate has imposed fines totaling €110,000 on KEDS. Meanwhile, the official verification reports have also been submitted to KESCO for the purpose of compensating affected consumers,” MINTI said in a statement.
The ministry added that inspections and verifications of electricity meters will continue in the future.
Regarding consumer compensation, the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) stated that all citizens proven to have been affected by these irregularities will be fully compensated.
According to the ERO, consumers seeking compensation must first submit a complaint to MINTI and then to KEDS. If they are not satisfied with the response received, they have the right to appeal to the Energy Regulatory Office for further review of their case.
