A bar in Pogradec has decided not to serve customers today and, instead of musicians, has had three women perform as a form of irony toward the government rule that will continue this year regarding live music being allowed only until midnight and a noise limit of 85 decibels.
The women say that the guitar has been hung on the wall, music is no longer played, and the only noise within the allowed limit now comes from their voices when talking with their husbands.
“The government doesn’t allow it. Up to 85 decibels. We’re in trouble—what can we do? We can’t even hold weddings because the government will put the groom in jail, leaving the bride without a husband. We are forced to end weddings early. Let the music continue longer, let young people play, eat, drink, and enjoy themselves—older people go to sleep anyway,” said one of the women.
Another added: “I’m knitting socks, the guitar is hanging on the wall. There’s no more music. They said stop the music. Only until midnight. No music—just sitting still.”
Through this form of protest, the bar aims to mock the live music regulation, which requires performances to end at midnight and limits noise to 85 decibels. According to tourism operators, these restrictions have a significant impact on tourists and visitors.
