The chairman of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, during his visit to Washington, attended a dinner organized in honor of the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau.
During meetings and discussions with Deputy Secretary Landau, they talked about the importance of continued United States support for a democratic Albania committed to fighting organized crime, drug trafficking, and corruption.
Mediu emphasized that during the talks he expressed his belief that Albania, as a NATO member country, should continue strengthening democratic institutions, guaranteeing citizens’ freedoms and rights, and ensuring an independent and trustworthy justice system.
In discussions with Landau and Congressmen Sessions and Self, they also focused on the importance of strategic cooperation in the Balkans, where Albanians play an important role in the stability and Euro-Atlantic future of the region.
Special attention was given to the 5% defense investment target, in line with the Summit decision, not merely as a financial obligation within NATO, but as a strategic investment in strengthening operational capacities, military modernization, and increasing cooperation among allies.
Mediu stressed that these investments are essential to guarantee credible military deterrence, long-term stability, and a sustainable political and security partnership in the troubled Balkan region, as well as to counter the harmful influence of China and Russia.
