New archaeological findings have been uncovered at the Amantia Archaeological Park, located about 30 kilometres southeast of Vlorë. Archaeologists discovered traces of ancient life, including fortification walls and building structures.
These remains still contain many unanswered historical questions. Blendi Gonxhja shared details from the latest excavations. He said the work was carried out by regional and national cultural heritage institutions.
Researchers uncovered an ancient building in the agora area. They also found new evidence about the city’s lower fortifications. The findings show that Amantia developed continuously from the 3rd century BC to the 6th century AD.
Gonxhja said research will continue in the coming years. He also confirmed that restoration work will be carried out to preserve and promote the site.
Amantia, founded in the 5th century BC, was an important fortified settlement in ancient Albania. It later grew economically and even minted its own coins.
Today, remains of temples, a theatre, and a stadium can still be seen at the site.
