Osman Taka Dance Added to Albania’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage List

The Osman Taka Dance has been included in Albania’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

The announcement was made by Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport Blendi Gonxhja, while Prime Minister Edi Rama also commented on the decision, describing the dance as one of the expressions of Cham identity and tradition.

“The Osman Taka Dance has been included in Albania’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage List,” Rama wrote.

According to the Prime Minister, the dance carries the history, pride and resilience of a tradition passed down through generations.

“A symbol of Cham identity, this dance embodies the history, pride and resilience of a tradition passed down through generations,” Rama stated.

The dance is associated with Osman Taka, a historical figure from Konispol, and is characterised by powerful yet elegant movements. Through its performance, it conveys values such as bravery, sacrifice, solidarity and the spirit of freedom.

Its inclusion in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List aims to recognise and preserve this tradition, ensuring that it is passed on to future generations.
