Peleshi: Clear Progress in Albania’s Implementation of CoE Recommendations

Speaker of Parliament Niko Peleshi met today with co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Ionut-Marian Stroe and Pavel Jablonski, to discuss Albania’s reform progress and democratic standards.

During the meeting, Peleshi highlighted that since exiting the monitoring system in April 2024, Albania has made significant advances in implementing Council of Europe recommendations, especially in fighting corruption, protecting media freedom, respecting minority rights, advancing judicial reform, and strengthening institutional independence.

Peleshi also briefed the rapporteurs on the work of special commissions overseeing electoral and administrative-territorial reforms, emphasizing their importance for consolidating democratic institutions.

The meeting recognized the Council of Europe and its Parliamentary Assembly as key partners in Albania’s path toward European Union membership.
