Pope Leo XIV welcomes the bishops and diocesan administrators of Albania in a private audience at the Vatican during their Ad Limina Apostolorum visit, a periodic visit made by bishops from each country to the Vatican every five years.
During the meeting, which lasted more than an hour, the bishops briefed the Pope on the current situation of the Catholic Church and Albania, outlining the realities, challenges, and concerns they face.
On behalf of the bishops and the entire Catholic Church in Albania, Bishop Gjergj Meta of Rrëshen, President of the Albanian Bishops’ Conference, greeted the Holy Father.
The Albanian Church leaders presented the Holy Father with an icon of Our Lady of Good Counsel, Patroness of the Albanian People, skillfully crafted by an Albanian artist. They also renewed their invitation for the Pope to visit Albania.
The bishops also presented a book dedicated to the Albanian martyrs, documenting the history of martyrdom and the Church’s remarkable resilience in Albania.
The gifts were completed with a traditional textile from the Zadrima region, symbolizing not only the area’s cultural heritage but also the love, dedication, and daily craftsmanship of Albanian mothers.
