TIRANA, June 3 – President of the European Council Antonio Costa arrived in Tirana on Tuesday as part of his diplomatic tour of the Western Balkans.
Prime Minister Edi Rama received Costa at the Prime Minister’s Office. The two officials held talks with their respective delegations.
Later, Rama and Costa are expected to hold a joint press conference. They are expected to discuss Albania’s European Union integration process, regional cooperation and the priorities of upcoming regional meetings.
Meanwhile, Costa’s visit comes ahead of the EU–Western Balkans Summit, which will take place in Tivat (Montenegro) on June 5. The meeting follows the previous summit in Brussels six months ago. It aims to reaffirm the European Union’s commitment to strengthening relations with Western Balkan partners.
For Albania, the visit carries particular significance as the country advances its European Union accession process. At the same time, Tirana has set the objective of completing negotiations and achieving European Union membership by 2030.
Earlier, Costa launched his Western Balkans tour on June 1 in Sarajevo. There, he met members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers Borjana Kristo.
The tour includes visits to all six Western Balkan partners. As a result, the initiative seeks to strengthen dialogue between Brussels and the region, while supporting the enlargement process and deeper political and economic cooperation.
