Prime Minister Edi Rama said Albania will officially open the final phase of European Union membership negotiations on May 26 in Brussels.
He said Albania successfully completed the opening phase of the process.
During his weekly remarks, Rama highlighted the discussions between the European Commission and EU member states in Brussels. He said they reviewed Albania’s progress after opening all negotiation chapters.
Rama also criticized the opposition.
He said the opposition launched what he called a campaign of negative attacks against Albania on the international stage. He referred to protests and incidents in Tirana and said they aimed to damage the country’s image with European partners.
He said the opposition claimed Albania’s EU path had stalled and the government had become isolated.
Rama said the developments in Brussels proved the opposite.
He said Albania moved forward through hard work and represented the country with dignity.
According to Rama, the Albania–EU Intergovernmental Conference on May 26 will confirm the end of the opening phase and launch the final stage of negotiations.
He repeated the government’s goal for Albania to join the European Union before the end of this decade.
Rama said Albania had reached another important step on its European path and would continue working toward full membership in the European family.
