Rama: Albania Set to Complete Opening Phase of EU Membership Talks

Prime Minister Edi Rama said Albania expects to complete the opening phase of European Union membership negotiations on Tuesday in Brussels.

Rama spoke at the Socialist Party’s 35th anniversary event in Durrës on Monday. He said Albania has opened all negotiation chapters in record time. He added that the country is now ready to begin closing chapters.

He said the intergovernmental conference follows the agreed calendar with the European Commission. The goal is to complete negotiations by 2027.

Rama said Albania is now closer than ever to joining the EU. He called European integration the country’s main strategic goal.

He also spoke about the Socialist Party’s political identity. Rama said the party supports democratic and liberal values and has rejected the legacy of communism.
