Prime Minister Edi Rama attended the inaugural ceremony of the first direct flight between Tirana and Toronto, describing it as a new bridge connecting Albania and Canada.
Speaking at Tirana International Airport, Rama said Albania has joined the map of transatlantic flights for the first time. He noted that what once seemed like a distant dream has now become reality with the arrival of the first direct flight from Toronto.
The prime minister highlighted the strong demand for the new route, noting that the inaugural flight arrived at full capacity. He expressed confidence that the connection would be highly successful.
However, Rama said Albania is already looking ahead to its next strategic objective: establishing a direct air link with the United States.
“We have made significant progress toward this goal and are much closer to finalizing it than we could have imagined just a few years ago,” he said.
According to Rama, expanding direct international connections strengthens tourism, facilitates business opportunities, and brings Albania closer to major global markets.
The launch of the Tirana–Toronto route marks another step in Albania’s growing international connectivity and its efforts to expand air travel links across North America.
