Prime Minister and Socialist Party leader Edi Rama praised Berat on Monday as one of Albania’s clearest examples of transformation.
Speaking during the Socialist Party’s 35th anniversary event in the city, Rama thanked Berat residents for their trust and continued support.
He said Berat reflects the progress Albania has made in recent years. He pointed to major improvements in infrastructure, the local economy and tourism.
Meanwhile, Rama recalled his first trip to Berat after becoming head of the Socialist Party. He said reaching the city was difficult because road infrastructure was poor at the time.
He stressed that one of the biggest challenges for local residents was the road linking Berat with Lushnjë. Rama said the transformation of Berat began with that road. Then progress continued in other sectors.
At the same time, he noted a positive demographic trend in the city. According to Rama, more people are now returning to Berat than leaving.
He added that tourism has created new economic opportunities for families and local businesses. This growth, he said, has helped residents build more stable incomes.
Rama also reflected on the Socialist Party’s early years in opposition. He described the first years of pluralism as a difficult political period with limited media access.
Still, he said the party remained active and continued its work across the country. He added that Berat today stands as a meaningful symbol of change and long-term development in Albania.
