Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama visited Dibër on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Party of Albania (PS), where he spoke about the party’s election victory, its relationship with the national interest, and the role of socialists in supporting the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

Rama also recalled political debates during the election campaign and the accusations directed at the Socialist Party over the years, emphasizing that, in his view, the party has always stood on the side of Albania’s national interests.

“I am here today after having held two unforgettable meetings, one before and one after the elections.

I remember the first one, which became a very popular gathering and was widely discussed across the media because of the ‘çyrykë’ remarks. Even I did not expect that all the people who felt targeted would be so provoked, jumping up and saying, ‘We are not fools; we are men.’ And the wise men followed the women to the ballot boxes, helping bring about the Socialist Party’s great victory.

Today, after 35 years, the party has achieved several very important milestones. The Socialist Party has a crystal-clear relationship with the national interest. The Socialist Party and its historic leader, Fatos Nano, were attacked from all sides with claims that they were linked to Serbia. Yet this was the party that openly supported the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), unlike those who, at night, supplied fuel to Milošević’s killing machine.

The Socialist Party has even been criticized by its own supporters for being too moderate. We have remained steadfast even in difficult times and in the shadows,” Rama said.
