Prime Minister Edi Rama met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz today in Tivat during the EU–Western Balkans Summit.
Rama shared details of the meeting in a social media post. He said they spoke after the summit session and before departing for their respective destinations.
Furthermore, the summit brought together European Union and Western Balkan leaders. They reaffirmed their strategic partnership and their commitment to advancing the region’s European integration process.
The meeting took place six months after the previous summit in Brussels. António Costa chaired the event.
In addition, leaders from EU member states and the Western Balkans attended the summit. Ursula von der Leyen also participated.
Under the theme “Shared Prosperity and Stability of the EU and the Western Balkans,” leaders discussed the progress of EU enlargement. They also examined the gradual integration of regional countries into EU markets and policies, as well as the implementation of the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.
Meanwhile, participants exchanged views on common challenges facing both the region and Europe. They also explored ways to strengthen cooperation in support of security, stability, and sustainable development.
Finally, the Tivat summit supported the implementation of the European Council’s 2024–2029 Strategic Agenda. It also reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to the European future of the Western Balkans.
