Rama Responds to Criticism of Government Information Agency: SIGMA Report Shows the Truth

Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted this Thursday on the social network X (formerly Twitter), referring to a SIGMA OECDreport on the Media and Information Agency (MIA).

In his response, Rama emphasized that the institution has received a positive evaluation in an international report, rejecting what he described as earlier criticism of the agency’s role.

Below is the full statement of Prime Minister Edi Rama:

“Until yesterday, they bombarded and smeared it from all sides—some from within, others from outside—raising alarm and wasting ink over their ‘independent’ reports, independent not only from the government but also from facts… But it turns out the truth is different—very different—because this government’s Media and Information Agency, which was attacked from the very beginning by the so-called fourth estate, actually plays a completely different role and serves the media and the public with quality.

And this is no longer just my claim. Nor is it the claim of a government that is often, and not rarely unfairly, targeted over press freedom. This is stated in the SIGMA-OECD report, one of those international institutional sources whose strong reputation is built on respect for facts, not perceptions; on professional analysis, not arbitrary prejudice; on objective evaluation of truths, not subjective amplification of half-truths.

Congratulations to the Media and Information Agency and to its entire team for this well-deserved recognition. The truth may be delayed, but it is never forgotten.”
