Rama Says Higher-Quality Tourism Can Drive Albania’s Economic Growth

Prime Minister and Socialist Party leader Edi Rama said improving the quality of tourism is key to Albania’s long-term economic growth.

Rama made the remarks on Monday during the Socialist Party’s 35th anniversary event in Berat. He said the real debate today is about Albania’s future and the kind of country it wants to build over the next 5, 10 and 15 years.

Meanwhile, Rama stressed that protecting biodiversity remains part of the government’s work. He added that the protected landscape in Zvërnec has remained unchanged and will continue to be protected.

He also linked tourism directly with economic growth. Rama said Albania cannot increase GDP, wages, pensions and consumption without improving tourism standards.

At the same time, he said relying only on small investments and mass tourism is not enough in the long term.

Rama added that quality tourism benefits more than visitors. He said tourists also support local products and services.

In addition, he noted that investments like the one planned in Zvërnec help nearby communities. According to Rama, they create more opportunities for farmers, livestock producers and local businesses.

He said Albania must continue to grow while respecting nature and building a stronger tourism economy for the future.
