Rama: We Reformed Systems to Reduce Corruption

Prime Minister Edi Rama, also Socialist Party leader, said today that Albania fights corruption more than ever. He credited government reforms that make systems less vulnerable to corruption.

At the Socialist Party Assembly in Unit 7, Rama highlighted that Albania leads the region in public procurement quality. Ministries and agencies no longer run tenders themselves. A dedicated institution now manages all public tenders and coordinates with counterparts abroad.

He said tackling corruption exposes inherited problems. Special institutions and SPAK investigate years of misconduct.

Rama emphasized that justice must be independent and balanced. He noted that Albania has never before investigated high-level officials or filed so many charges.

He stressed that the executive system still needs improvement. New justice institutions are only 5–7 years old and cannot act perfectly in every case.

Rama also recalled that when the Socialist Party took office, police chiefs, teachers, and nurses were politically appointed.
