Savings in banks increase, 137,000 individuals hold 60% of deposits

Individual deposits reached 1.38 trillion lek at the end of 2025, marking an annual increase of 8.8%. The figure comes from the Deposit Insurance Agency’s report and shows not only rising savings but also a widening gap among depositors.

At the end of 2025, the number of individuals covered by the deposit insurance scheme in the banking system stood at 2.92 million.

The data show that 137,500 individuals with more than 2.5 million lek in their accounts held a total portfolio of 820 billion lek. On the other hand, 1.78 million depositors with up to 2.5 million lek owned 568 billion lek. In percentage terms, this means that the group with deposits above 2.5 million lek holds 59% of insured individual deposits, while the remaining group holds 41%.

Based on estimates, a depositor in the group with over 2.5 million lek has on average about 6 million lek in the bank, while a depositor in the other group has around 320,000 lek. In other words, the first group holds nearly 19 times more money than the rest.

Overall, the Albanian banking system closed 2025 with total deposits of 1.84 trillion lek, reflecting a 9% annual increase.
