TIRANA, May 26 – An international scientific conference titled “From the gigaworld to elementary particles, everything moves and self-organises: this is physics” was held at the Academy of Sciences. The event marked the promotion of a series of scientific works by academic Rexhep Meidani. The publications focus on space, time, matter, and motion.
The Academy of Sciences of Albania organised the event with the University of Tirana and the National Institute of Physics. The organisers said the aim was to highlight the scientific value of the works. In addition, they said the publications link to contemporary physics research. The works reflect the author’s long academic and research experience.
Mimoza Hafizi, head of the National Institute of Physics, said the four volumes were the main reason for the conference. She said Meidani remains closely connected to physics. She also said this connection has been passed on to students and colleagues over time.
The head of the Academy of Sciences, Skënder Gjinushi, opened the conference. He said recognition of scientific figures is an institutional and moral duty. In parallel, he said the publications could encourage young people to study natural sciences. He also said they could help reduce brain drain. He pointed to challenges in the field, including artificial intelligence and space exploration. At the same time, he noted declining interest in fundamental sciences.
Meanwhile, Floran Vila described Meidani as a figure with strong academic and state contributions. Rexhep Meidani presented his work under the theme “The universe, matter, space-time and physical motion.” He outlined key concepts in theoretical physics, including the evolution of the universe, matter, space, time, and motion.
In the second session, international and Albanian scholars contributed to the discussion. Participants included Claude Charlot from École Polytechnique, Kimet Jusufi from the University of Tetovo, and Margarita Ifti from the University of Tirana. They addressed topics such as the Higgs boson, dark energy, and complex systems.
Doctoral students also presented research in physics. Overall, the event served as a platform for scientific exchange and cooperation between Albanian and international institutions.
