Tarran Meets Civil Society on Electoral Reform

Head of the OSCE Presence in Albania, Ambassador Michel Tarran, met today with representatives of civil society to discuss electoral reform.

The meeting took place at the request of civil society groups.

Representatives from the Albanian Helsinki Committee, BIRN Albania, the Institute of Political Studies, the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, Qëndresa Qytetare, and the Women’s Network Equality in Decision-Making attended the meeting.

Tarran thanked civil society representatives for their active role in election monitoring and for their continued contribution to improving electoral processes in Albania.

He listened to concerns about the pace of work of the Special Commission on Electoral Reform.

He also stressed the importance of effective consultation with all stakeholders, including civil society organizations.

Tarran said all views and recommendations should be properly considered. He called for a transparent, inclusive, and consultative reform process.

He also repeated that the OSCE Presence will continue to encourage political representatives to fully address the recommendations of OSCE/ODIHR before next year’s local elections.
