Wendt Outlines Four Priorities if Confirmed as US Ambassador to Albania

Eric Wendt outlined four main priorities if confirmed as the next US ambassador to Albania.

Wendt made the remarks before the United States Senate. He said his main goal would be to protect American citizens and advance US interests.

Wendt praised Albanian special forces. He said he worked closely with them during NATO missions and in Afghanistan. He described Albanians as proud, hardworking and welcoming people. He also said Albanian forces reflect the fighting spirit of Skanderbeg.

The first priority focuses on security. Wendt pledged support for Albania’s fight against corruption, organized crime and drug trafficking linked to Latin American cartels.

The second priority centers on defense cooperation. He said he would support Albania’s commitments at the NATO Summit in The Hague, including the gradual increase of defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2035. He also backed stronger cybersecurity and military cooperation.

The third priority targets economic development. Wendt said American investors should benefit from a fair legal and contractual climate as Albania develops sectors such as artificial intelligence, energy, infrastructure and mining.

The fourth priority focuses on embassy staff. Wendt said he would support both the professional and personal well-being of embassy employees.
