Chief prosecutors from the Western Balkans met today in Sarajevo to strengthen regional cooperation against organized crime and corruption.
The meeting took place during the Third Regional Consultative Forum. It focused on improving coordination with European partners in cross-border investigations.
The forum was organized by the Western Balkans Criminal Justice Project together with the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At the same time, it gathered chief prosecutors and special prosecutors from six regional countries.
Klodjan Braho and Vladimir Mara represented Albania at the forum.
During the discussions, participants focused on operational coordination, information exchange and stronger judicial cooperation tools.
In addition, a new Practical Guide on Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) was presented. It aims to support cross-border investigations and improve efficiency among law enforcement agencies.
Meanwhile, Michael Schmid praised the progress achieved under the project led by Eurojust.
He said that nearly four years of cooperation have produced significant results.
So far, 88 cross-border investigations have been supported, including 23 joint investigation teams.
Finally, participants agreed on the need to continue strengthening operational cooperation and judicial links between the Western Balkans and EU member states.
