29th Tirana Book Fair Postponed to December, Organizers Cite Tensions in the Capital and Concerns Over Visitor Attendance

The 29th Tirana Book Fair “Tirana 2026” will no longer take place from November 11 to 15, as originally scheduled. The Publishers’ Association and the organizing committee announced on Tuesday that the event has been postponed until December.

In their statement, the organizers explained that the decision was made following consultations with publishers, university lecturers, teachers, and readers, arguing that the tense situation in Tirana would not guarantee the expected level of visitor attendance.

According to the organizers, the main concern is the participation of young people and children, who represent one of the fair’s primary target groups.

“Due to the tense and concerning situation in Tirana, adequate attendance by visitors and readers, particularly young people and children, could not be guaranteed,” the statement reads.

The fair will take place sometime in December, with the new dates to be announced in the coming days.

The postponement comes amid ongoing tensions and protests in the capital, which have also affected the organization of public events.

Full Statement:

Dear fellow publishers and exhibitors of the 29th Tirana Book Fair “Tirana 2026”,

Dear readers,

Following consultations with numerous publishers, university lecturers, teachers, and readers, the fair’s organizing committee has concluded that holding the event on the originally scheduled dates (November 11–15, 2026), given the tense and concerning situation in Tirana, would not guarantee adequate attendance by visitors and readers, particularly young people and children, who are among the Book Fair’s main target groups.

We hereby inform you that the 29th Tirana Book Fair “Tirana 2026” will take place in December, before the end of this year.

The exact dates will be announced very soon.

Thank you for your understanding and patience, and we wish you all the best in your work!
