Around 44% of enterprises operating in Albania embraced technology and innovation during the 2022–2024 period. The increase in innovative activities has had a positive impact on revenue growth and employment expansion.
During 2022–2024, 44% of enterprises with 10 or more employees undertook innovation activities. This category includes businesses that introduced innovations in products or business processes, as well as those that had incomplete or abandoned innovation activities during the surveyed period.
According to results published by INSTAT, the Information and Communication sector recorded the highest level of innovation, with 68% of enterprises actively engaged in innovation. Enterprises in the Financial and Insurance activities sector were active in innovation at 55.1%, while companies operating in Electricity, Gas, Steam, and Air Conditioning Supply activities showed an innovation activity rate of 45.0%.
Based on enterprise size, innovation activity was most present among large enterprises with more than 250 employees, where 66% developed innovative activities. Meanwhile, medium-sized enterprises with 50–249 employees were active in innovation at a rate of 54.3%.
The survey results show that the growth of innovative activities has positively influenced increases in sales revenue and employment expansion within enterprises. Net sales generated by innovation-active enterprises increased by 4 percentage points. In 2024, these sales accounted for 62% of the total net sales of the surveyed enterprises.
