2027 Fiscal Package takes centre stage at Tirana International Fair

The Tirana International Fair, organised by Klik Ekspo Group, continues to bring Albanian and international businesses together, offering opportunities to showcase products, exchange expertise and establish new partnerships.

On the third day of this year’s edition, held at the Palace of Congresses, business representatives, industry associations and experts gathered for a panel titled “Competitiveness of the Albanian Economy: Challenges and Risks”. They discussed the main obstacles affecting the business climate and the country’s economic development.

During the discussion, business representatives called for a more effective dialogue with public institutions, particularly when the government drafts fiscal policies. The proposed 2027 Fiscal Package emerged as a key concern, as businesses warned that planned changes could increase operating costs and weaken the competitiveness of Albanian products.

Arben Shkodra of the Albanian Manufacturers Association stressed the need for a permanent consultation mechanism between the government and the private sector. He warned that the lack of such a channel was undermining business confidence.

Meanwhile, manufacturing entrepreneur Edvin Prençe described the fiscal package as an additional burden on companies. He cautioned that higher operating costs could eventually push up consumer prices. He also called for policies that reflect the economic realities of businesses preparing for integration into the European single market.

Participants also examined public spending and exchange-rate fluctuations, highlighting their impact on manufacturing and export companies. Accounting expert Ardian Gjokutaj pointed to the significant pressure on the manufacturing sector and called for public investment to focus more on productive activities that generate added value.

The discussion also addressed challenges in the dairy processing industry. Domestic producers face high operating costs, difficulties securing raw materials and competition from imported products. Ilir Pilku, representing the Dairy Producers Association, stressed the importance of supporting the entire production chain, from farmers to processors, to strengthen the domestic industry and improve its competitiveness.

From an economic perspective, lecturer and expert Mateo Spaho argued that competitiveness depends on more than tax rates. Productivity, technology, innovation and predictable economic policies also play a crucial role. He emphasised that a stable investment climate and closer cooperation between public institutions and businesses would help Albanian companies prepare for international markets.

Beyond the panel discussions, the Tirana International Fair continues to provide a platform for companies to showcase their potential, establish commercial contacts and explore new business opportunities. Through the event, Klik Ekspo Group aims to connect Albanian businesses with international partners and encourage cooperation that extends beyond the fair itself.
