Rama: Albania making progress towards EU membership despite disinformation

Prime Minister Edi Rama highlighted Albania’s progress towards European Union membership on Thursday, describing the 2026 Progress Report as a clear assessment of his government’s performance.

Speaking at a joint press conference with EU Ambassador Sofia Moreira de Sousa, Rama welcomed the report’s findings. However, he argued that disinformation prevents many Albanians from recognising the country’s achievements.

“I am pleased with this assessment because it clearly shows that Albania has made significant progress. Unfortunately, Albanians cannot see these achievements through television screens and channels that spread disinformation,” Rama said.

Rama reaffirmed his government’s commitment to achieving Albania’s historic goal of EU membership. He also stressed the need to seize this opportunity, which years of hard work and favourable international circumstances have helped create.

Meanwhile, journalists asked Rama about accusations made by Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj. He dismissed their significance, comparing them to passing car noise along the boulevard.
