Hita meets police officers injured in the line of duty in Malësia e Madhe

TIRANA, Nov 7 /ATA/ State Police Director General Skënder Hita visited Malësia e Madhe to meet and thank two officers, Inspectors Hilmi Smajlaj and Samet Bajri, who serve with the General Patrol Unit of the Malësia e Madhe Police Commissariat and sustained knife injuries while attempting to apprehend a German national in the village of Pjetroshan. The officers intervened following reports that the individual had used petrol to attack a citizen’s vehicle.

“I would like to commend you for the courage, professionalism and determination you demonstrated in carrying out your duties, in a situation that posed a serious threat to your lives and the safety of citizens. Despite being injured during the intervention, you did not back down and managed to subdue the individual, preventing even more serious consequences.

You have my utmost appreciation and gratitude, and I can assure you that you have also earned the respect of the public, whose trust is essential to our mission.

I encourage you, and the entire police force, never to retreat in the face of difficulties, but to remain committed to serving the public and upholding the law, even at the cost of personal sacrifice, as this is our mission,” Hita said.

The Director General also paid a home visit to Deputy Commissioner Fasli Rama, a police officer who was injured during the protest in Shkodër.

“I am very glad to see you recovering well, Fasli, and making steady progress towards a full recovery. I want to express my gratitude and appreciation for your dedication and sacrifice throughout your more than 30 years of service in the Police.

No one would want their career to come to an end under such circumstances, but you should take pride in knowing that you were not there to stand against citizens or peaceful protesters. Rather, your duty was to uphold every citizen’s right to peaceful protest and protect institutions, as well as public and private property, from any acts of violence.

I also extend my thanks to you and all police officers who continue to carry out their mission with commitment, professionalism and integrity, in the service of citizens and the protection of the law. I wish you a speedy recovery and a swift return to duty,” Hita said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Fasli Rama expressed his gratitude to Hita for his support.

“Your continued support and concern, together with the commitment and professionalism of the medical team at the Trauma Hospital, have helped me make good progress, and I am now well on the way to a full recovery. Thank you, Director, for acknowledging the sacrifices made by police officers in the service of our country and its citizens,” he said.
