TIRANA, Nov 7 /ATA/ First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Albania Holta Zaçaj participated in the “Fast Payments in the Western Balkans” panel in Tirana, where she highlighted the significance of Albania’s accession to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA).
She noted that SEPA membership is expected to lower the cost of cross-border transfers and make payments between Albania and European countries easier and more efficient.
Albania’s accession to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), the development of instant payment infrastructure and the expansion of electronic services were among the key topics discussed at the 8th International Conference on Regional Card Schemes and Financial Market Infrastructures for Retail Payments.
Zaçaj also highlighted the “TIPS Clone” project, which aims to enable payments to be made within seconds through a modern instant payment infrastructure.
According to Zaçaj, another important priority is the expansion of electronic payments and the development of new services, including QR code payments, as well as the need to promote financial literacy and protect consumers when using digital services.
The First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Albania emphasised that the aim is to turn investment in modern payment infrastructure into tangible benefits for Albanian citizens and businesses, allowing them to make payments across Europe as quickly, easily and securely as they would at home.
