Equestrian Season Opens in Korçë, Growing Interest with Many Competitors

The equestrian season has officially opened in Albania, with over 30 competitors from Albanian-speaking regions taking part in a competition organized in Korçë.

In recent years, this sport has been on the rise due to investments in tracks, the organization of various competitions, and promotion by the Equestrian Federation.

Enthusiasts and competitors say that the sport is now “taking root,” expressing hopes that in the future it could become a profession and even lead to international awards.

“Today’s competition marks the opening of the equestrian season, with participants from Kosovo, Tirana, and Korçë. There are 30 riders taking part—children, adults, and experienced competitors. As you can see, equestrian sport is developing more with each event, with new organizations and new participants. There are also tourists coming; in Albania it is cheaper than abroad, so they come here to learn horse riding,” said an equestrian trainer.

“My name is Junia Kavazi, I am from Korçë, and I have been involved with horses for a year and a half. I am 10 years old. It’s my hobby, and when I grow up, I want to become a rider,” said the young girl.

“I am from Tirana but live in England. I come specifically to take lessons and have even brought my own horse. I have found great hospitality. I travel around Europe for training, and I discovered this place by chance. We come and stay for a month, and we are very satisfied. We aim to progress further across Europe,” said another participant.

Besides being a sport, equestrianism is increasingly being seen as a tourist attraction in southeastern Albania.
