Bank Resolution Fund Reaches 8.2 Billion Lek

The Emergency Intervention Fund has reached 8.2 billion lek (around 85 million euros) after annual contributions from commercial banks for 2026.

The Bank of Albania said the fund was created in 2018. It aims to support the resolution of banks that face financial difficulties in the future. At the same time, it avoids the use of taxpayer money.

The fund operates under the law on bank recovery and resolution in Albania. It targets a level of 0.5% of total banking system liabilities. These liabilities are calculated as the difference between total assets and regulatory capital of all licensed banks.

The target must be reached within 10 years from the law’s entry into force.

Based on current projections, the fund is expected to reach about 9.4 billion lek by 2027.

The Emergency Intervention Fund is managed by the Albanian Deposit Insurance Agency. It follows financial management policies approved by the central bank.
