Speaker of Parliament Niko Peleshi said that Albania is taking on a growing role in the Euro-Atlantic security architecture.
He made the remarks during the Security Forum titled “US–Europe Partnership and the Indispensable Role of NATO”, organized by the Albanian Parliament with the participation of lawmakers and representatives from the United States Congress, the European Parliament, NATO member states, the UK Parliament, and regional countries.
The discussions focused on global security challenges, strengthening transatlantic cooperation, and NATO’s role in maintaining peace and stability.
Peleshi said Albania’s foreign and security policy is built on key pillars, including EU membership, the strategic partnership with the United States, active NATO engagement, and a strong commitment to peace in the Western Balkans.
He highlighted Albania’s progress toward EU integration, stating that the country is moving quickly toward membership and that Parliament has intensified efforts to align legislation with European standards.
He also emphasized Albania’s role as a reliable NATO ally, noting increased defense investment, modernization of military capabilities, and stronger cybersecurity capacity.
Peleshi stressed that Albania is preparing to host the NATO Summit in NATO Summit 2027, which will be the first NATO summit held in the Western Balkans and a historic moment for the country and the region.
He underlined the strategic importance of the Western Balkans and the need for close cooperation with Euro-Atlantic partners to address security threats, hybrid risks, and regional stability.
