Acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, met in Vienna with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker during an official visit to Austria.
Kurti thanked Austria for its long-standing support for Kosovo since the 1990s. He also highlighted Austria’s role in state-building efforts and its contribution through the NATO-led KFOR mission.
Furthermore, Kurti praised Austria’s support in the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers in Chisinau in May 2026. He stressed that Kosovo’s top priority remains membership in the Council of Europe.
In addition, he underlined the importance of continued Austrian backing and its role in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
Kurti also welcomed Chancellor Stocker’s statement in Tivat that the European Union is not complete, secure, or stable without the Western Balkans. He emphasized that Kosovo remains fully committed to its European path.
Therefore, he urged the EU to grant Kosovo candidate status and to open accession negotiations.
Meanwhile, the two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral relations between Kosovo and Austria. They focused on economic cooperation, trade, investment, energy, digital transformation, and the role of the diaspora.
Moreover, they addressed issues related to security, defense, and regional cooperation.
Finally, Kurti congratulated Austria on being elected a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2027–2028. In return, he received congratulations on Kosovo’s results in the June 7 snap parliamentary elections.
