TIRANA, June 1 – Conservation works will start within days at the Bylis Archaeological Park and the Klos site. The project will also upgrade tourism infrastructure and build a multifunctional center. It aims to strengthen visitor services and local economic activity.
Representatives from the European Union Delegation in Albania, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Mallakastër Municipality, and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) in Tirana met at the site for the fourth Steering Committee meeting. The meeting formed part of the European Union project “EU for Economic Development – Local Economic Development Led by Tourism with a Focus on Cultural Heritage.”
Participants reviewed progress and discussed next steps. The Steering Committee noted visible results, including the creation of the Bylis–Klos Archaeological Park and approval of its management framework. In addition, delegates advanced work on conservation planning and local development grants. As a result, the project continues to expand community-based initiatives and investment actions.
Earlier, participants visited the “School of the Construction Site” programme. The initiative runs with the Polytechnic University of Milan and the University of Tirana. It trains staff from archaeological parks, regional cultural heritage directorates, and the National Institute of Cultural Heritage, alongside students and young specialists. At the same time, practical conservation work at the site provides hands-on experience for participants.
The Steering Committee confirmed progress across all project components. It also reaffirmed priorities for the next implementation phase.
