TIRANA, June 11 – Election authorities in Kosova completed the count of candidate votes in more than 80 percent of polling stations in the parliamentary election. Preliminary results show the Self-Determination Movement leading with around 43 percent of the vote.
Party leader and prime ministerial candidate Albin Kurti secured more than 190,000 votes. The Democratic Party of Kosova ranks second with about 21 percent. Bedri Hamza leads the party’s candidates with more than 96,000 votes. The Democratic League of Kosova follows in third place with around 18 percent.
Vjosa Osmani has received more than 63,000 votes in the ongoing count. She leads within her party list by around 5,000 votes over Lumir Abdixhiku. The Alliance for the Future of Kosova holds about 7 percent of the vote. Party chairman Ardian Gjini has gained support from more than 33,000 voters.
However, the figures exclude conditional ballots, votes from persons with special needs and ballots from outside Kosova. Election authorities have not yet processed those categories.
Meanwhile, the Central Election Commission prepares to count diaspora ballots later in the day. The process includes votes cast in person on June 6 across 30 diplomatic missions of Kosova abroad.
Of the 27,724 registered diaspora voters, around 81 percent participated, equal to 22,414 voters.
At the same time, officials continue verification of postal ballots arriving from abroad.
Based on preliminary results, the Self-Determination Movement is projected to win 48 seats. The Democratic Party of Kosova is expected to secure 24 seats. The Democratic League of Kosova is projected to win 20 seats. The Alliance for the Future of Kosova is expected to obtain 8 seats.
